Color & Design - 2012 Home Interior Color Trends

Today, many home owners let their own creativity and individuality inspire their color selections. Depending on your personal taste and preferences, you may prefer bolder, more expressive colors or if you lean toward a more refined palette you are inspired with sophisticated and understated hues.

According to Debbie Zimmer, color expert at the Paint Quality Institute, everyone will be able to satisfy their personal favorites with the natural colors native to our American Landscape for 2012.

"Native plants and flowers, oceans and lakes, and rocks and minerals are the sources of inspiration for the paint colors that will be 'in' next year," says Zimmer. "If you're thinking about repainting your home interior, look to the great American outdoors."

Refreshing and Calming Blues (Aquamarine, Azure, Blue Lagoon, Bluebell, Blueberry, Caribbean, Cerulean, Cornflower, Heather blue, Horizon Blue, Hydrangea Blue, Lapis, Ocean Blue, Pacific Blue, Sky Blue and Slate Blue)

Blues made a major splash in 2011 and continue to be a favorite choice for home owners who want a fresh and updated interior. Popular palettes include exotic Caribbean Blue to more subtle variations of Heather, Hydrangea or even the soft Slate Blue. Introducing these nature inspired Blues into an interior design plan, can create a refreshing and soothing color alternative for many living and work areas.

The Exciting World of Lush & Electric Greens (Apple Green, Asparagus, Avocado, Cactus, Electric Lime, Eucalyptus, Fern, Forest Green, Grass Green, Tourmaline, Heather Green, Honey Dew, Ivy, Jungle Green, Loden, Malachite, Mint, Moss, Myrtle Green, Olive, Parsley, Peridot, Pine Green, Pistachio, Rosemary, Sage, Sea Green, Shamrock and Willow)

The growing popularity of Greens provide exciting design alternatives which offer a nurturing and comforting reminder of lush lawns, rolling meadows and thick foliage. Popular palettes include elegant Fern, Honey Dew or Willow. Apple Green or Electric Lime can be combined with warm colors like yellows and oranges to create a bold design or a dramatic accent for kitchens and dining spaces. Create romantic master bedroom themes with deep green hues inspired from lush forests, ivy or moss ground covers.

Regal and Romantic Violets (Amethyst, Aubergine, Eggplant, Grape, Hyacinth, Iris, Lavender, Lilac, Orchid, Periwinkle, Plum, Prune, Regal Purple, Thistle, and Wisteria)

Violet always makes a dramatic statement whether it is viewed on a snow covered mountain top at sunset or in a field of Periwinkles. Violet shades of Lavender or Lilac create soft inviting settings for bedrooms or sunrooms. Deeper shades of Violet inspired from Eggplant, Iris, Orchids or Periwinkle make stunning accent colors for dining rooms, bedrooms, bath rooms or even a study.

Transform Your Kitchen & Bath Room Cabinets

If you are looking for a less expensive way to give your existing kitchen and/or bath room cabinets a new look; Refinishing them can be a great way to add a custom designer look at a fraction of the cost!

The easiest way and least expensive way to perk up your old cabinets is to simply paint them. Professionally painted cabinets can completely transform the look of a dated kitchen or bath room, especially if your bold enough to cover them in a bold or coordinating accent color. If want a softer, more subtle look, decorative painting or a faux finish is a great alternative.

Adding new hardware with coordinating plumbing fixtures will finish the look.

Select a solid color with a contrasting wall color or from our popular glazing and antiquing finishes for a truly custom - furniture quality appearance!

Decorative painting finishes include antiquing or glazing and you might want to consider a coordinating design for your Stove's Ventilation Hood.

The first step is to schedule an appointment for a personal consultation.

We recommend that all decision makers be present at the meeting to discuss colors, textures, design and budget requirements.

Wood Deck & Patio Maintenance Check List

1. Check for Damaged Boards

First carefully examine the surface boards on your deck and steps. These boards can wear out or rot due to excessive moisture and extreme temperature changes. Check for signs of stress like excessive cracking, rotting, curling or severed boards. These boards will need to be replaced, stained/painted and resealed.

2. Check for Loose Screws/Bolts & Popped Nails

Next inspect your deck surfaces for any loose screws, bolts and nails. Popped nails are a common problem on deck surfaces; simply use a hammer to put them back in place. For loose screws use a screwdriver or drill to re tighten them. To tighten bolts, use one or two wrenches to properly tighten them.

3. Check for Insect or Animal Damage on Structural Supports

Left unchecked they can ultimately destroy a deck! With a high beam flashlight, carefully inspect the structural supports and beams underneath your deck. Look for any signs of chewed or brittle wood, cobwebs etc. Simply call your pest control service to correct the problem. If unwanted critters are residing under your deck; consider adding a barrier around the exposed areas of your deck to keep them out permanently.

4. Clean Your Deck

We recommend pressure washing your deck every year to remove built-up dirt, grime, mildew, or mold. (Even if you can't see it - it is there!) Not only will it restore the beauty of your deck but pressure washing will eliminate slippery surface hazards. Over time, built-up mold and mildew can actually damage your deck!

Since we live in a very humid climate; moisture will destroy a wood deck in a very short time. The best defense to protect your investment is to simply re-seal or re-stain it each year.

5. Re-Seal or Re-Stain Your Deck Every Year!
